We have to tell people how to do things every day. In other words, we have to give instructions. The instructions must be clear and in sequence because when we give instructions, we want people to be able to follow them.

Use this procedure in order to make an emergency call. First, you must dial 111. Second, you must state the problem. Third, you must give the telephone number shown on your phone. Fourth, you must give the address where help is needed, and, finally, your name and badge number. *If you follow this process, you can help someone in danger or even save a life.

*Generally in a set of instructions, a concluding sentence is needed only if the reader may need to ask for further information. This type of concluding sentence is called a now what. Therefore, the example of a concluding sentence in this paragraph is optional.
